Who We Are

We are a worshiping church. Our worship services include both contemporary and traditional styles of worship. Our contemporary service, each Sunday at 8:45 AM, offers a time of worshiping God through sermons, praising God through music, and listening to God through prayer in an informal worship style. Our more traditional worship service at 11:00 AM offers the same elements of worship in a more traditional setting. During the summer months we have one worship service at 10:00 AM. Come and join us at one of our services.

We are a teaching church. Our Sunday School classes begin at 9:55 AM and provide learning opportunities for people of all ages. In addition, we have various adult classes each quarter. There are evening and daytime Bible studies for adults and Vacation Bible School for our community in the summer, along with various other opportunities for learning.

We are a mission-based church. We believe in helping others. Our youth and adult mission teams travel to Mexico, Virginia's Eastern Shore, Marion, VA, and to Florida, and Mississippi to assist hurricane victims. We support missionaries and churches in Pasos de Fe, South Africa, Haiti, and Indonesia.

Our Vision and Mission

The vision of King's Grant Presbyterian Church is "Abiding in Christ" sent to Grow, Shine and Love.

At KGPC, our mission is to celebrate God’s presence in our midst, worship God in the reformed tradition, preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, teach through the study of God’s Word, reach out to serve the needs and concerns of our neighbors, and to listen carefully for the leading of the Holy Spirit in our life together.

If you would like to learn more and join us in our vision and mission, send us a note or visit us this Sunday!

“The cross of Jesus Christ is the enduring symbol of our faith.
Rooted in the true vine, through the power of the Holy Spirit,
we, the branches grow the fruits of a life abiding in our Savior.
Shining His light of hope, we joyously share His love and ourselves with the world.”

Our Pastor and Staff

Chris was born a Presbyterian by the grace of God having been baptized at the age of two in Southern California. From then on, the Presbyterian church has been her second home.

After graduating college in 1994 from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, she went directly to Princeton Theological Seminary for her Master of Divinity degree, graduating in 1998. She served summer internships in the Bahamas and in the hills of West Virginia. After graduation, she lived in Ghana, West Africa for a year through the PCUSA Young Adult Volunteer Program.

She was ordained in 1999 as Associate Pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, TN and served for eight and a half years. In 2008, she became the Solo Pastor of Mulberry Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC. In 2015, she was called as the Pastor of King’s Grant Presbyterian Church. Chris recently received her Doctorate in Ministry from Columbia Theological Seminary. Her topic was Transfromative Pastoral Leadership.

She met her husband, Nelio in the Dominican Republic on a mission trip in 2013. They married in 2014 and have two children, Christian and Alex. Chris loves traveling, taxiing her children around and finding new ways to be the church in the world.

Meet Our Staff

Our History

In the early 1960's, the Norfolk Presbytery purchased five acres of property where our Church is located. The plan of the Presbytery was to establish congregations in some strategic locations of growth. It was thought that Lynnhaven Presbyterian Church would relocate; however, the congregation voted no.

A small group of people, committed to the establishment of a new church, began meeting to pray and discuss plans to organize. On September 3, 1961, the first worship service for this group was conducted by the Rev. Raymond Flitton, Organizing Pastor, called by the Home Mission Committee. The congregation met in King's Grant Elementary School.
